Family-owned business for more than 140 years
With its modern structure and international outlook, the Tengelmann Group is a multi-sector retailer represented across Europe. With outlets in 15 countries, a network of 4,117 branches and 80,282 employees the Group generated sales amounting to EUR 11,34 billion in the past financial year (January 1 to December 31, 2010).
Its divisions include Kaiser's and Tengelmann supermarkets (Mülheim an der Ruhr), OBI DIY stores (Wermelskirchen) and the textiles and non-food discounter KiK (Bönen). A number of smaller production companies, service providers, associated companies and involvement in e-commerce round off the Tengelmann Group portfolio.
The holding company is located in Mülheim an der Ruhr, where the long-established family business was founded in 1867. Operational management of the Group is now in the hands of the fifth generation of the family headed by Karl-Erivan W. Haub (CEO and Managing Partner) and Christian W. E. Haub (Chairman A & P North America).
Ecological and sociopolitical commitment is a high priority for the Tengelmann Group, which has won many awards for its energetic environmental protection program symbolized by Tengelmann’s own “Frog and Turtle” environmental seal. The launch of the Tengelmann Climate Initiative in 2007 is a logical continuation of this commitment.
